So Obsessed Saturday: THIS WORKOUT

Screen Shot 2015-02-28 at 11.39.21 AMAs you know I am currently in the most wonderful of the year for any collegiate athlete: OFFSEASON! Oh…what a treat it is to have all this time. And yes I am one of those annoying people who actually loves working out, but sometimes it can be hard to switch up my workouts!

I think Pinterest is great resource for workouts (and really everything) because it has just about anything you could be looking for! I found this treadmill workout on Pinterest and have really been obsessed. I am not a huge fan of running (obviously I am only really coordinated in the water). Sometimes I can do it for workout but a straight 1 hour run doesn’t really appeal to me, especially on a treadmill.

However Pinterest peaked my interest in incline walking workouts, and man do they kick my butt. Its such a great alternative to running and you can really feel it working and toning! Here is the workout I have been doing throughout the week. And remember you never have to a workout at face value! We aren’t all built the same and different hints works best for different people – so do what works for you!

I love how it shows the times making it easy to keep track, and I guarantee that you will be dripping sweat once your done but your legs will be in tip top shape if you keep at it!

Happy working out!

I’ve also attached my Pinterest workout board! Take a look at other workouts I love!

G.N.O. Glitters Night Out

3 easy ways to add some glitter to your girls night out!

1. Glam up your nails! Probably the easiest way to add a little sparkle because they require nearly no maintenance throughout the night!

Or if that seems a little complicated when you’re getting ready quick-go with the classic accent nail!

2. Shoes! That pair of shoes that where so cute and convinced yourself to buy, but are a little on the crazy side and have yet to wear? WELL BREAK THEM OUT SISTA FRIEND!

After all the higher the heels the closer to heaven… am I right?!

If you’re feeling particularly crafty you can always make your own! If its not on Pinterest can it really be done?

3.Last but not least Makeup!

Now I’m not saying go full Ke$ha (who I do love BTW)

But a little sparkle on the eye can be done in a tasteful and fun way!

Now I know we don’t all live at a MAC up counter and have the miraculous steady hand to get eh perfect eye-liner, but hey there’s always ways to do the at-home version. A line of black eyeliner with some light colored eye shadow layered with whatever sparkle you have will do just fine! Play outside the lines a little!

And Enjoy your night out! It’s Friday you deserve it!

National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

This week is National Eating Disorder Awareness week and I felt compelled to add to this very important conversation as I have personally seen the affects first hand; as I am sure, sadly, that nearly every 20-something girl has either experienced it themselves or come across someone who has. Like any disease it can put everyone involved in a very tricky and dangerous situation. It is hard to deal with because you know that those involved are simply just trying to better themselves, however this obsession is not a healthy one.

To start off I think the entire concept of eating disorders is grossly misunderstood and have many stigmas attached to them, so here’s a few facts. Eating disorders come in all shapes in sizes, but generally boils down to ‘extreme emotions, attitudes, and behavior surrounding weight and food issues’ as defined by The biggest threat that eating disorders pose to those it affects is that if gone untreated it can severely jeopardize their health.

Common Misconceptions:

-‘The best solution is to just tell someone who isn’t eating just to eat!’

What many people don’t realize is that people struggling with an eating disorder have a deeply emotional connection to food and see it not as a nutrient but rather in a strict calorie and fat mindset. Telling someone to eat is like telling someone who is wheelchair bound to simply walk.

-‘Only women can suffer from eating disorders!’

Although 80% of people struggling with bulimia nervosa are females, that leaves a an entire 20% as males, and those are only the reported cases.

-‘Eating disorders are caused by Photoshop in the media’

Such intense media can be part of the cause, however there are much more connections to the biological and genetic and psychological causes. However, that does not mean that such images are anymore acceptable as they do give unrealistic expectations to young girls who are still developing their own opinion of what is considered acceptable.

-‘It is all a cry for attention’

Although at first progress it may bring positive attention, however as it progresses attention can become negative, which could only further the obsession of those affected.

-‘It is a just a teen girl phase’

Besides it being found in also males, they can begin during the teen phase but it is also very common in middle-aged women. Furthermore such habits developed in teen stages can only the further the issues that can be found when older as they can turn into very harmful habits.

What are they exactly?

Anorexia nervosa is a form of self-starvation where someone strictly watches their food intake to the point that their body does not get adequate nutrients. This is extremely dangerous because people often underestimate how well programmed and fit our body’s are. Someone who purposefully keeps food from their body sends their body the message that they are in a dire situation, pushing your body to entire into starvation mode, essentially slowing down its processes in order to conserve energy. The longer such practices are maintained effects can include slow heart rate, low blood pressure, reduction of bone density, severe dehydration, and overall weakness. Although only .5-1% of American women suffers from anorexia nervosa it has one of the highest death rates of any medical health condition.

Bulimia Nervosa is defined as ‘a cycle of bingeing and compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting in order to compensate for the effects of binge-eating.’ Symptoms are similar to anorexia nervosa in that there is a severe obsession with body image and feeling the need to control food intake or at least the affects of it. This presents additional harms to the body such as tooth decay, electrolyte imbalances that can lead to irregular heartbeats and possibly heart failure, and inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting.

I hope this has brought some clarifying information as to eating disorders and the importance to their recognition and treatment. It is important to realize that those who are affected by them should not be ashamed because not only is it in your control but they should also not be thought of as weak, but rather that they are simply to better themselves. However, there are much healthier ways to achieve your goals, which is why I like to incorporate healthy tips and motivation in my writing. I fully support anyone who wants to improve their physical fitness and lifestyle, but your happiness is just as crucial! In such a body image obsessed culture it can be easy to become obsessed with what people see on the outside and assume that only drastic measures can help you achieve the exterior you want; or that being skinny is the only way to be happy. On the contrary we were all made as individuals, and if we try to fit into the mold of everyone else, what will happen to what made us so unique and special!

There is healthy way to see the results you purse, while keeping yourself happy. For those who feel that either they or someone they are close to is showing some of these systems do not be afraid to ask for help! Asking for help doesn’t make you weak but makes you strong because it shows that you are ready to take control back of your life! It may feel that at times you are too strong to let hunger or food control you, which makes you win, when on country you should feel strong because you have let yourself win in comfort and confidence in your own skin!

Oh My Oscars!

Alright here it goes the Oscars glamour recap in order of total bombshell to bust.

Lupita Nyong’o: Her pearls and calm shimmer at the bottom of her dress screams class and looks amazing on her

Jenna Dewan Tatum: As I am sure most ladies will agree Jenna could wear a burlap sack and still win at life because of the man candy on her arm. However she brings it back to herself with this gorgeous gown, that has enough clean white class with a smidge of reveal.

Ryan Hawke: Her vintage almost Marilyn Monroe look dazzled me. Mostly because I love the Marilyn Monroe era, but also her dash of red lipstick sky-rocketed her level of class with her side-swept blonde hair. She rocked this, and especially with her bad-ass name.

Jennifer Aniston: Considering how far I am into Friends it would be a crime to not be in love with Jennifer Aniston for her just as she is. But if you need a reason here’s one: this effortless Oscars look shows why so many people love her. Its so easy going but also so classy with showing just a little leg and a color that doesn’t draw to much attention to the dress but rather to the amazing person wearing it!

Anna Kendrick: Perhaps I am biased because Pitch Perfect is my spirit animal (if movies can be spirit animals) but Anna Kendrick adds maturity to her otherwise ‘cups’ run reputation. She brings in a little class with being to wow and in your face

Emma Stone: Emma Stone or Emma Stunna? Enough said.

Luciana Duvall: As fairy like as this is, I think she pulls it off. Sure it could also work in the Barbie Fairy Forest real life movie, but somehow it fits on the red carpet because it is classy in both cut and color.

PAtricia Arquettte

Patricia Arquette: Although she isn’t the most glamorous of the Oscars, she definitely deserves her shout out for her class in her acceptance speech on equal pay for women. Its 2015 we have landed on the moon and this issue should be so yesterday.

Nicole Kidman: I of all people am always ready for someone who’s head to glitter or sequins, but Nicole I’m sorry, you’re a doll, but this doesn’t really do it. It seems like it should be cut into a skirt for a teen to wear to her first high school party.

Hannah Bagshawe: Oh Hannah. I loved this I really did, even though it wasn’t glitter overload it was definitely different and just stunning…until I couldn’t stop staring at the feather pelts attached to her belt. So close! At least they has something to dust off her husbands Best Actor Oscar with.

Laura Dern: I love the shine, really I do. But I also feel like she is ready to ride into battle with her chain-linked armor, along with the holy lords medallion around her neck that will bring her strength in battle!

Hope you’ve enoyed this review

So Obsessed Saturday (on Sunday): Close Finishes

My apologies fellow glitter geeks for my lack of presence this week and for being behind with my Saturday post. I was in Geneva, Ohio for the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, where the Wi-Fi was severely lacking. As I’ve told you before swimming is my main workout for 6 months of the year. Now swimming is pretty rough to find yourself in for so long (ultimate love hate relationship). But it’s coming to big meets like this that remind me why I love it so much.

Which brings me to my latest obsession: Close Races. Sure that sounds dumb, because often people think swimming is quite silly. I mean staring at a black line going back and forth, flinging your arms every which way and then you’re done. Swimming does get a glimpse of glory every once in a while, and by that I mean every 4 years when the Olympics roll around and swim lessons get the biggest spike in participants.

SO here I am to convert you into a fellow race-watching junkie, and then you can impress all your non-swim friends with your knowledge of the greatest swims in history (even if you barely know what you are talking about. Below I have attached two of the closest races of all times, that are undoubtedly going down in history.

Men’s 4 x 100 Freestlye Relay at Beijing Olympics

-In this race France had been favorites for the 4 x 100 relay, and had made it quite clear they where coming after USA. Over the course of the race it looked as if France would pull it off, however Jason Lezack makes a heroic name for himself by pulling out this win, and over taking the lead in the last 50 of the entire race! (This also won Phelps his second gold medal of the meet which eventually would add to his total 8 breaking the record for most golds at a meet by an athlete)

(For full race skip to 2:04;  for the final leg 4:23)

Another swimming bonus is that very little is for sure. The race isn’t over untilt he race is over. This amazing take over by team USA shows why you should never give up or give in. And d you can even hear the announcer say he doesn’t think he can do it, which goes to show that no one believes it until it’s done!

Michael Phelps 100 Butterfly Finish and win by .01 seconds

-Tune in at 2:56 to see the full race, minus all of the introduction. Phelps out touches his fellow American opponent by .01, which not only wins him the gold but also gives him a 7th gold medal which eventually helps him set the record for most gold medals won in an Olympic games. (8)

Jus tlike anything in life you have to believe that you can. And you cant quite despite odds. The best thing you can do for yourself is to bet on yourself.

Hopefully this has peaked your interest in some swim racing, but to be honest nothing will ever compare to seeing something in person. At a meet there is truly magic in the air, because anything really can happen.

A Hump Day Happy Thought

“What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet.”

The middle of the week usually goes one of two ways. You can think ONLY TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL FRIDAY, or two WHOLE more days until friday.
hump day
That perspective can make huge difference, and if you find yourself with that latter, and one bad thought can really put you down in the dumps.  Everyone once in a while I can find myself so very caught up in everything that is going on around me. Whether it is good or bad, exciting or stressful. I love this quote because I think it is such a great reminder.

Now this can go both ways. Yes life may be great and wonderful now and we should embrace that, but we should also be excited for what the future holds! It is so great that what we think is great now will just be added to the jar of great things that have happened that we will experience in the future!
On the same note, you can find yourself caught up in little (or big) things going on around you that can make you feel down or frustrated, this may be the most comforting thing to imagine. It can be easy to get caught up in things going on around you because it can feel like everything. Whether it is grades at school or even friend drama, just that thought can be so uplifting! And half the time the time we have the control to replace the negative thoughts in our mind with positive ones! It can actually make a difference. When you start to take control of your own mind, its amazing how much better you can feel.
Maybe give yourself a little time today to think about the future and what you are most excited for, hell even make a goal for the future!
Hope this brought a little glitter to your day!
